"My dogs mean the world to me and once I found a vet that I trusted so completely with their care, I knew I would never take them anywhere else." —Tina Steele - Kirkland, WA

"Why the Critter Doctor? Because what I have found is they provide the best care for my pets, just as I want for myself and my human family." —Diana Clark, Retired President/CEO, LifeCenter Northwest

I've been taking my dogs and cats to Dr. Wendy for over four years now. I've been very impressed with her compassion and depth of knowledge. I've been particularly impressed with her willingness to listen to me as an owner, and her openness to my occasionally untraditional ideas. My animal's welfare is always her top concern, but I feel cared for and respected as well. I referred my neighbor to Critter Doctor last week. Yesterday she came by to thank me, as she too was very impressed by the clinic and the help she received. —Anne Ferguson; Kirkland, WA, Gibberin, Inc.

I had postponed my dog Stella's teeth cleaning for over 6 years, deeming it a frivolous and expensive thing to do…. Boy, was I wrong…. Dr. Wendy and her staff ended up removing 17 of my poor pup's teeth and cleaned the rest…. she is now back to her crazy, energetic self. —Leslie Sugiura

"We take our dog and cats to Critter Doctor Animal Hospital for veterinarian care. Our dog has been having some major stomach issues over the last month and they have been very thorough in helping us figure out what has been going on. The veterinarians and the staff are very skillful, very informative, and very good at communicating what the issues are." —Joshua Paul at Angie's List

"These folks are our primary vets for both our cat and dog. The two vets here are always helpful and friendly. In particular they have been intentionally trying to make the first visits our puppy makes to their office primarily fun so she learns to enjoy them. They've also been knowledgeable and professional when our pets have had their various medical issues." —Matt Armstrong at Google Reviews

"I was having a tough time finding a vet that I felt comfortable using for my animal's care until I found Dr. Bernstein's Critter Doctor Animal Hospital. It's a small and friendly practice that is run professionally from top to bottom. It's the little things that add up like a spotless exam room and clean lobby, the phones being answered by a helpful person every time you call, to being able to get an appointment the next day when your animal companion is sick and you're worried.

"But it's the bigger things that really matter like how gentle the vet techs are when handling your pet and when the vet takes the extra time to explain each procedure and issue, answering all your questions and alleviating your concerns. When my senior cat had his recent dental cleaning, Dr. Bernstein called me during the surgery to consult on her findings and to ask how I wanted to proceed. She also called several times throughout the day to explain everything and to let me know when he awoke. I have never had this cat in for a surgery over the twelve years we've shared together and Dr. Bernstein made the experience as stress-free as possible for me and my sweet boy, Merllyn. She even went the extra mile and had him come back in to check that his tooth socket and gums were healing properly not just once, but twice at no extra charge..."

"My six-year-old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier was first seen, by the Critter Doctor staff, a couple of months ago to treat an ear infection. The ear infection seemed bad and I was worried. The staff was able to fit me in on the same day. After an initial conversation and assessment, the Dr. Alt provided me with an estimate for my dog's care before proceeding further. I agreed to the estimate. Once the doctor examined the material swabbed from the ear, Dr. Alt explained the diagnosis and the treatment. The cost of the visit was less than the estimate, because a less-potent prescription medication was necessary.

"I was so pleased with the service that all of the staff provided, during my first visit, that I inquired about teeth cleaning. Dr. Alt assessed the condition of my dog's gums and teeth and rendered an estimate that was much less expensive than the one I had received from our vet in Ballard. We moved from Seattle to Kirkland, so the smaller drive, coupled with the lower cost estimate and the team's great care made booking the procedure with Critter Doctor a "no-brainer." The information delivered before the procedure and the post-procedure care instructions were outstanding. A staff member called, the day after the teeth cleaning, to inquire about my dog's condition.

I recommend Critter Doctor and will continue to patronize the clinic."
—Scott Hayman, Seattle, WA at Yelp

"Critter Doctor helped our kitty get over a bad tooth issue which made him a much calmer cat and improved his breath. Both our cats have been going to critter doctor for a long time and have been well cared for. Fortunately they have had very healthy lives so we don't need to go in often, but when we have they have always been seen quickly and attendant to professionally and with care. The issue with my cat's tooth happened a little while ago - he started drooling and we thought this was just because he had entered the "geriatric" stage of his life (sad but true.) We decided to get his teeth cleaned while he was going to be under for some xrays for an unrelated issue and during that time Critter Doctor found several of the teeth to be rotted and needed removal. They called us and explained the situation and our options and the related cost and we decided to do it. I brought home a much calmer cat. My husband noticed shortly after that his breath had improved a great deal and we both noticed that he seemed much calmer and more content. Poor thing was in pain before and we didn't even know it. If/when I get more fur babies I will be happy to take then to Critter Doctor. Both doctors and the staff are nice to both animals and humans - always taking the time needed to effectivly treat and asses health. Oh, and the unrelated x-ray issue - turned out that the x-rays did not show the need for any immediate action and Critter Doctor was very up front about telling us that and not recommending further treatment - they didn't try to get us to purchase or put my cat through anything not needed." —Gloria G. at Yelp

"I have two Corgi puppies that I take to the Critter Doctor. I won't take them anywhere else. They love going there. We drop in for a weight check all the time so they can say hi to all of the staff. We see Dr. Alt and she is incredibly thorough. She will take the time to answer all of my silly questions and my dogs love her, even after having surgery there. I have not seen Dr Bernstein as a patient, but I have talked to her and she is wonderful too. The office staff and vet techs are all very friendly. Dr Alt has come in while on call for a minor problem that I was worried about. It turned out to be nothing, but she didn't make me feel like an inconvenience at all. They may cost more than some other vets, but you get what you pay for. My dogs are like my kids and I want a vet appointment that is more than just getting a rabies shot. That is what I get at critter doctor." —Hailey K. Yelp (Filtered Reviews)

"We have used Critter Doctor Animal Hospital. We took our dog there two or three months ago. They ran a series of tests. They give excellent care. Their charges are high. I will use them again in the future. Critter Doctor Animal Hospital is very thorough, especially on issues that are not extremely obvious." —Don Mery at Angie's List

"I use them for veterinary care. I last brought two dogs and two cats in for shots. They are great. I would use them again. They provide great care." —Julia Taylor at Angie's List

"We use Critter Doctor for veterinarian service. The last time we used them was at the end of April.

They are all ladies and my dog likes women. We spent about a couple of $100 on the last visit there. We took him from the orphanage in Woodinville and they provided a free check-up when we took him there. That was some years ago and we just liked the way they handled him and they are good with dogs. We would recommend them to others. They are the professional kind of people there and the doctor gets down on her knees and talks to our dog and he likes that. They provide good quality service and have always been good with the examinations and things like that. We never had a problem getting an appointment there and also never waited long in the waiting room. When we were there last time, I had a seizure and they called 911 and they came and took me away."
—Donald Hansen at Angie's List

"We go to Critter Doctor for our 13yr old cat and our 9yr old dog. We typically see Dr Alt but on occasion see Dr Bernstein. Both are very capable and handle our animals with great care, as do the assistants. They're always prompt with test results and we generally don't have much of an issue getting into see someone within a couple days.

Our cat had a thyroid issue that was making her extremely lethargic. They diagnosed the issue, recommended a couple different approaches - radioactive iodine treatment or daily medication. I appreciated the choices so we could decide what we could afford. We ultimately went with the iodine treatment and after a few weeks, the difference in out cat's behavior was night and day. A couple years on, she's doing fantastic and back to her old, crabby, self. :)

Our dog is a recent rescue. She's been in for an initial checkup. They looked her over and confirmed the vaccines and diagnoses that the previous vets have given. They found a minor issue and gave us an easy prescription to deal with that. Oh, and they threw in the Humane Society exam for free even though they didn't have to because she was a rescue. Very cool. They also recommended a groomer to remove her matted and long hair. The groomer was great. Our dog looks great, she seemed relieved and happy after the visit.

The only downside to Critter Doctor is that they can be a bit expensive. But, judging by previous vets both here and in Canada, the rates are in line with the norm."

"Wonderful veterinarians and staff, have cared for my furry family for years now. Very caring." —From Jessica S. at Foursquare

"Best vet I've taken my cat to since I left IN over a year ago!" —From Diane C. at Foursquare

"When I noticed blood all over my beloved hamster's cage, I knew something was wrong. While it didn't seem like anything serious, just a cut on his foot, I decided that it would be good to take him in and make sure that nothing else was wrong.

The doctor handled him with care, gave me liquid antibiotics to put in his water, and told me to change the bedding I was using to one that was softer on his feet instead of the pine which I had been using previously. Sure enough, the cut healed quickly, and while my hamster eventually died a while from then, it was because of old age, and nothing else.

I couldn't have asked for anything better. Thanks so much!"

"I moved to the area from Northern California and was looking for a good vet for my two rabbits. After calling around for price quotes, I found Dr. Bernstein with Critter Doctor. I brought in one of my bunnies and was impressed with her professionalism, knowledge and willingness to handle my bunny despite her being allergic.

My bunny's nails were terribly long because she hates to be handled and I had a tough time doing it myself and I never felt accused of neglect or felt I was being judged by any of the staff.

I've brought both my rabbits in to be examined and treated by Dr. Bernstein and will continue to do so. I feel their prices are reasonable and am often charged less than what I was quoted; in fact, I wasn't charged at all for a follow-up visit for my rabbit when she tore a nail.

Dr. Bernstein is honest and is happy to recommend another vet when she feels their experience would be of better service. She always follows up personally when she says she will and she and her staff are always patient and helpful.

She comes highly recommended!"

"I could not be more happy with the service and quality of care my cat Ninja received after going here. He had recently gone to another vets office (Rose Hill VCA) and had to be seen by an alternate vet b/c his regular doc was unavailable. The original reason for going in was to change his asthma medication b/c the prednisone was no longer working and in the meanwhile he was seeming to have some trouble with his back leg and urinating.

SO we took him in and they poked and prodded him and ended up keeping him overnight to get a urine sample that turns out should not have been tested in the 1st place b/c it sat to long in the box before a tech collected it. Anyway to make a long story short, they gave us new asthma meds without any questions, supplements for his joint pain(back leg) and determined there was nothing wrong with his bladder or kidneys and told me I HAD to FEED SCIENCE DIET!!. He was home for a few days and I had already had it with that vets office and them shoving science diet down my face. I attempted to ask what they thought if I was to feed him the wellness brand of low calorie cat food and that's when they jumped down my throat and said not to use it based solely on the fact that it was not a prescription diet , she knew nothing else about it.. Well science diet is not good enough for my cat, so I will not feed it to them. We switched to the wellness despite what the vet said. A few more day has gone by and he stills seems to have trouble breathing and his meds are not working fully. I decided to take him to someone who specializes n cats and does not have a corporate sponsor, The Critter Doctor. We saw Dr. Alt and I don't think we could have received better care. She spent nearly 25 minutes in the room with us discussing his issues and explaining things in a manner that I could understand unlike any other vet had done. She was very thorough and complete. No one has ever bothered to tell me that my cat should be dewormed as a precaution to rule out the lung worms he could possibly have. After she she spent some time with Ninja she determined that one of his lungs was significantly worse than another and we need to find out why. She wanted to take xrays to rule out that he has a tumor in one side and discovered that he has an pneumonia on one side. I feel blessed that they were able to figure out what I though was wrong all along. She actually listed to what I had to say, for gods sake I know my cat better than anyone else and if I think he is having trouble I would hope the vets would listen. And she did. We are so very thankful that this was discovered before it became fatal and I will never take my cat back to that other clinic again. We will always go to the critter doc! Thank you again!"

I wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of our dear girls, except Dr Wendy Bernstein. We have referred many friends along the way and everyone is extremely pleased with them. They are very understanding, helpful and knowledgable. Of course they get expensive, but that is what comes along with pet ownership--but they make it worthwhile with their friendly faces and honesty.

I would never go to another Vet. Dr Wendy is amazing.

"My cat was ill and I was looking for an affordable veterinarian on the Eastside. (My previous vet was no longer affordable!) I ended up finding the Critter Doctor. I called to make an appointment and explained my cat's symptoms to the receptionist. That evening, one of the doctors called me back to say that my cat needed to be seen as soon as possible. She recommended bringing her in the next day. I thought it was great that the doctor reviewed appointments to assess situations. Unfortunately, my cat didn't recover and had to be put down. I had a long advisory session with one of the doctors and she frankly and kindly explained the situation. When the time came to put the cat down, the staff was very kind and they even made a keepsake pawprint plaque of my cat's foot." —Michelle Q. at Insider Pages

"A wonderful vet. Dr. Bernstein and her associates are skilled, compassionate and helpful. They really explain everything you need to know about caring for your pet. Plus, in my opinion, the prices are very reasonable. The office is friendly and clean. You can't ask for more." —Mary Rawson at City Search

"Why the Critter Doctor? Because what I have found is they provide the best care for my pets, just as I want for myself and my human family." —Diana Clark, Former President/CEO, LifeCenter Northwest, Bellevue, WA

"I had postponed my dog Stella's teeth cleaning for over 6 years, deeming it a frivolous and expensive thing to do. After all, my childhood dogs never had their teeth cleaned and they seemed just fine! Boy, was I wrong. Stella got very ill about 8 months ago and we'd spent many hours at the Critter Doctor and the ER vet. We finally pinned down her illness to allergies but she just wasn't getting back to her normal self. As soon as we got her feeling well enough, I scheduled a teeth cleaning - I just had this feeling that her mouth might be the reason why we couldn't get her fully well again. Plus, she also began to have HORRIBLE breath."

Dr. Wendy and her staff ended up removing 17 of my poor pup's teeth and cleaned the rest. I was extremely devastated that she'd be missing almost half her teeth but knew that she'd feel so much better having those bad ones removed. I knew this could have all been prevented if I'd had her teeth cleaned on a regular basis and was very upset with myself for putting it off for so long. Luckily, Stella recovered super quick and didn't seem to notice that she had far fewer teeth. Most importantly, she is now back to her crazy, energetic self. We're so glad we have her back!

I would happily recommend either vet to anyone in need of quality care for their animal friends. I am so happy that I have Critter Doctor to take such good care of my furry companions." —Gail G; Kirkland, WA

"I have a dog with some health problems, so I've been here quite a few times, and I've been nothing but satisfied. They have very friendly staff, and they seem to have more technicians than I'm used to seeing at a veterinary office, which is great because I'm usually in and out in 15-20 minutes.
My dog usually sees Dr. Alt, and my girlfriend's dog usually sees Dr. Bernstein. It seems like people have taken offense with Dr. Bernstein in other reviews, but I haven't had any such experience. Both doctors are very thorough, and make a point of educating their clients and answering questions. Of course there have been times when I wasn't very happy with what they had to tell me, but it's not their fault that my dog has health problems or that there was something I could've done better to prevent the issues. It does seem like their prices are a bit higher than other vets I've visited, but it's not so much higher that I wouldn't go back. Here's the thing... I can pay a little more and have quick service with friendly staff and thorough vets, or I can go to a cheaper vet that's under-staffed and doesn't respect my time or intelligence. I guess a "perfect" vet would be cheap and have great service, but I'm not convinced a place like that actually exists.

If you live in Totem Lake and are looking for a great veterinary office with great service, I highly recommend Critter Doctor"

"I've been seeing Critter Doctor now for 4 years. Dr Alt is the best that there is for feline doctors. She is patient with my boys and loving at the same time. She takes the time to understand each of their personalities and what they need from her. She also takes the time to understand the owners and what they might need. I had one picky boy (whom has passed) that didn't like to be seen on a table so she would get on the floor with him. She also recognized that I would get stressed when he did, so she would have me exit the room to not escalate the situation. He would always leave calm. I currently have a boy that decided to have fun with string and got it stuck in his stomach. Dr Alt was caring during the entire procedure and after. My boy actually looks forward to going to the vet and there isn't any stress involved with it. I would highly recommend Dr Alt at Critter Doctor, I will continue to see her as long as she is practicing!

The Vets here are the best! The staff is great, and the clinic is spic-n-span. Excellent veterinary care."
